mCars has no server, no account and no analytics. It makes no network requests of any kind. Here is what the app stores, and where it stays.
| What mCars stores | Where it lives | Leaves the phone |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicles - nickname, plate, make, model, year, VIN, notes | this iPhone | no |
| Expenses - type, dates, amount, currency, notes | this iPhone | no |
| Documents - title, category, expiry date, notes | this iPhone | no |
| Attachments - the PDFs and photos you scan or import | this iPhone | no |
| Preferences - app language and currency | this iPhone | no |
The app contains no networking code. There is no mCars server, no account to create, no crash reporter, no advertising or analytics SDK, and no third-party library that could send anything on the app's behalf.
Everything is written into the app's own container on the device, marked with complete file protection. While your iPhone is locked, those files are encrypted by iOS and unreadable - including by mCars itself.
With your permission, mCars uses the camera to scan documents. Scans are written straight into the app's container. Nothing is uploaded, and the app reads your photo library only for the specific file you pick yourself.
mCars can lock itself behind Face ID or your passcode. iOS performs the check and tells the app yes or no. The app never sees your biometric data, which never leaves the Secure Enclave.
Expiry reminders are local notifications, scheduled on your device from the dates you enter. No push server is involved, and nothing about your vehicles is sent anywhere in order to produce them.
You can export an encrypted backup file. It is sealed with AES-GCM, using a key derived from your password with PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 at 600,000 rounds. Where the file goes is your choice - Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop - and once it is there, that destination's own terms apply to it.
The password is stored nowhere. Lose it and the backup cannot be opened - not by you, not by us, not by anyone. Keep it in a password manager.
If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or to a computer, the data mCars holds is included, the same as any other app's. That backup is covered by Apple's privacy policy, not by this one.
mCars collects nothing, from anyone, at any age.
Delete a vehicle, a record or a document inside the app and it is gone, along with its attachments. Delete the app and the whole container goes with it. Because nothing was ever sent anywhere, there is nothing left for anyone to delete on your behalf - and no request for you to file.
If this policy changes, the revision date below changes with it. Since the app collects nothing, any change would be a correction or a clarification rather than a new data practice.
